About the Webinar

Created specially by La Dolce Vita University to celebrate La Bella Sicilia! Through an engaging Q & A format, we will explore and discover that delicious layer cake of culinary & cultural history that is the dazzling island of Sicily. This Happy Hour with be jointly hosted by award-winning travel writer, lecturer & photographer Carla Gambescia, and Sicily travel specialist and boutique tour operator Allison Scola, founder and curator of Experience Sicily. Allison is also a performing artist of Southern Italian folk music and dance and … a cannoli expert! 

During the event, all participants will have the opportunity to receive Experience Sicily’s phenomenal restaurant and gelateria recommendations -- 13 pages that cover the entire island.

Happy Hour Suggested Aperitivi:


Try a Garibaldi -- This low-alcohol cocktail was invented in the sixties in memory of the hero of the Due Mondi, the orange juice standing for the landing in Sicily and the red   colored Campari for the famous red Garibaldi shirts (giubbe rosse).


       3/10 of bitter Campari 

       7/10 of fresh orange juice


Or Etna Bianco or Etna Rosso

       All deliciously paired with: 

Fresh bread (semolina or whole grain) or bread sticksGreen olives (not spicy) (For example, Nocellara del Belice cultivar from Sicily)Pecorino cheese (ricotta, fresh/pepato, stagionato)Sun-dried tomatoes (in oil)Salumi (fresh and fatty, prosciutto crudo/cotto, mortadella, speck, lardo)Anchovies (breaded and fried or grilled)Eggplant dip (Eggplant dip could be caponata, or simple eggplant spread, or roasted eggplant under olive oil, or anything that features eggplant.

Carla Gambescia is the author of  La Dolce Vita University: An Unconventional Guide to Italian Culture from A to Z, winner of the Silver Prize for Best Travel Book of the Year 2019. Carla’s passion for Italy began early: with her mother’s love of the Renaissance masters and father’s discourses on Italian geniuses of every calling.
